What a Result Looks Like
What changes, service by service
Exterior cleaning is one of the few trades where the difference is genuinely visible in a single frame, which is why we photograph the work as it goes rather than afterwards. Here is what the change actually is on each surface, and what a good result should look like when we leave.
House washing.The green-black film lifts off the shaded and north-facing elevations and the siding returns to the color it was. On a soft-washed house the change holds, because the algae was killed rather than stripped, so the regrowth clock starts from zero.
Roof washing.The black streaking running down from the ridge disappears and the roof reads as the shingle color that was chosen. Critically, the granules are still on the shingles, because the roof was soft washed rather than blasted.
Driveways.The grey-green tint and the tire tracking come off evenly across the whole slab. The tell of a good job is the absence of stripes, which is a function of using a rotary surface cleaner rather than a hand wand.
Patios and pavers.Growth comes out of the joints and the paver faces return to color, with the joint sand still in place. On a full restoration the joints are refilled with polymeric sand, so the surface sits flat again.
Decks.The flat grey lifts and the grain shows again, with the boards still smooth. A deck that comes out furry or scored was cleaned at too much pressure.
Gutters.The trough is empty, the downspouts run, and the visible gutter faces have had the tiger-striping washed off them.
Honest Expectations
What will not come out
Not everything cleans back to new, and we would rather say so before the job than after it. Oil that has soaked into porous concrete over several years often lightens rather than disappears. Grey that has gone deep into badly weathered deck boards may not come all the way back. Rust staining and some tannin marks from long-standing planters can be stubborn. Concrete that has already spalled or flaked from freeze-thaw will be clean afterwards, but it will still be spalled.
When we look at a property we tell you which category yours falls into. That occasionally costs us a job, and it is a great deal better than taking the money and leaving someone disappointed with a result that was never achievable.
